Wheels; round lakes created by dike breaches

In the past, the violence of the water when a dyke broke created dike chambers or ‘wheels’. Now they are small, quiet lakes which you can walk along in a beautiful walking route between the picturesque village of Valkkoog and Sint-Maarten. We see a couple of these dike-pools (‘wielen’) above Valkkoog: surrounded by reeds and rich in water birds. At one of the wheels next to our park, you can even walk across it, over a beautiful, spectacularly long platform.

There is a walking route along our park and the wheels. You can download it here.

They are beautiful all year round and tell a story
