Towns

Schagen

Schagen is situated on an old mound, along the west side of the Westfriese Omringdijk.  The friendly atmosphere can be felt when walking through the narrow shopping streets or sitting down at one of the terraces around the cosy market square, opposite the Grote Kerk.

Every Thursday morning (from the end of June to the beginning of September), you can imagine yourself in Schagen in times long gone. During Westfriese Folklore, you can marvel at a colourful parade of historic vehicles and Schagen people dressed in typical Westfriese clothes!

Alkmaar

Visit Alkmaar for the first time and you will never forget it. Alkmaar is, of course, known as the City of Cheese: for centuries, the world-famous cheese market has been held on Friday mornings from April to September.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an hour’s drive away. Visit this world-famous 17th century capital of the Netherlands. Enjoy the historical buildings, beautiful museums and friendly atmosphere. Take a cruise through the canals, walk through the Vondelpark and shop in the old town. Amsterdam is unique in its kind!

Villages

Bergen

Bergen consists of two centres: Bergen itself and Bergen aan Zee, which is three kilometres away from the beach. This makes Bergen the ideal mix for everyone who wants to combine beach life with culture, who likes swimming but also excursions, and who wants to enjoy nature but also beautiful sights.

Barsingerhorn

Barsingerhorn was the first village in Noord-Holland to get a protected village view. This way the old core is kept alive. Monumental farms and country houses can be found along the thirteenth-century dike and are accessible via bridges. In the centre, you will find the former town hall, and a tram stop renovated in the old style.

Kolhorn

In a sea of meadows, the former fishing village Kolhorn is situated. Picturesquely situated behind the dike, it is not difficult to imagine that this was once a harbour town on the Zuiderzee. Due to reclamation, it now lies in the middle of the West Frisian landscape.
